A fender flare is traditionally used to make the fender wider on off-road vehicles. Also known as “wheel arch extensions” they basically extend the factory fender wider on a 4x4 truck to cover large tire packages that stick out from the truck. Without the fender flares, these large tires would be wider than the body of the truck, which is illegal in most places.

Fender flares are also very useful for covering up rusty fenders. It is much cheaper to purchase Jungle Fender Flares than to get a new paint job.
