Fender Flares for a Toyota T100. Isn’t this a “Toyota Pick Up”.

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

First of all, I would like to clarify a little confusion created by Toyota’s lack of imagination while naming a certain vehicle. From 1989 till 1995, Toyota produced a machine known as the “Toyota Pick Up Truck”. Hmm… clever. It did not have a name any more specific than that. This can be confusing for people that own a T100 of the same year. They easily might assume that these fender flares will fit their T100 since it is a Pick Up truck made by Toyota in this same range of years. This however is obviously not the case. The Toyota model known as the “T100″  is a different model than the “Pick Up” so fender flares made for one will not be direct fit for the other.

However; a few customers have bought our fender flares for the 89-95 Toyota Pick Up and trimmed them with a razor to fit the T100. It is fairly easy to trim the edges of these ABS fender flares using a razor knife such as an Olfa or Xacto. Two rear left fender flares were required instead of one left and one right because the Pick Up fender flares have a notch for the gas door on the right side which is not required for the T100. The gas door on the Toyota T100 is not close enough to the wheel well to interfere with fender flares. You can see more photos of them installed on Toyota Pick Ups and a white T100 in our gallery here; T100 Fender Flares. Feel free to leave comments if you have any other input or questions on this topic.

2 Door Fender Flares on a 4 door Truck – Does it work?

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Is it a good idea to put fender flares made for a 2 door truck on your 4 door Ute? Take a look and see for yourself!

4 Door Hilux Fender Flares

4 Door Hilux Fender Flares

This guy used fibreglass fender flares made for a 2 door on his 4 door 98-04 Hilux LN 165. Since the fender flares mounted to both the cab and the box (or tray) of the vehicle, they were forced to break when they two main body components moved independently. The cab of the Hilux is mounted to the frame with rubber bushings between so the cab can move slightly. The box or tray of this truck is mounted the same way. Effectively, the cab and box can potentially move in different directions at the same time so the rigid flare that is mounted to both parts gets cracked and eventually broken.

This could have been avoided however. Fender flares intended for the correct 4 door model could have been purchased of course. Or if not available, these rear fender flares could have been cut where they bridge the gap between the cab and box of this Hilux. Then you could cap the cut ends of the fender flares with fibreglass since they are hallow. In any case, contact Jungle Fender Flares to order your set of direct fit fender flares for the 98-04 Toyota Hilux LN 165.

Will 89-95 Toyota Pick Up Fender Flares fit the 90-95 Toyota 4Runner?

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Many people have been asking me recently if the 89-95 Toyota Pick Up fender flares will fit their 90-95 4Runners. This is a two-part answer.

First of all, the front fender flares would fit perfectly as the Pick Up and 4Runner did share the very same front fenders in this generation.

However; the rear fender flares are a different story. The 4Runner requires either 2 piece rear flares on each side due to the rear doors being very close to wheel wells, or narrow fender flares designed specifically for the 4Runner can be used. In regards to the 2 piece option, one piece of each rear flare must mount to the door so it can open with the door. The other piece would mount only to the most rear part of the wheel well. As stated before, other 4Runner fender flares are designed more narrow than the Pick Up fender flares so these 1 piece rear flares will actually fit on the body panel without interfering with the doors.

There is also another complication of using Pick Up fender flares on the 90-95 4Runner. The gas filler door on the 4Runner is in a different location than the Pick Up. The pick Up fender flares have a notch cut out to go around the gas filler door but this notch is not required on the 4Runner as the gas door is not located there.

Jungle Fender Flares supplies full sets of fender flares for both of these offroad trucks, so please contact us if you need more information. Remember, we ship worldwide!
